Why do you need this writing webinar on getting higher essays scores on expository? Let me answer that question using statewide data from Texas.
Every single year in 4th grade, about 75% of the students get one of these scores from the two readers: 0 + 0 = 0, 1 + 1 = 2, 1 + 2 = 3, and 2 + 2 = 4. That makes it very plain to see that whatever programs are out there to teach the process of expository, they are not producing good results. The scores are pretty similar in 7th and 9th grade as well.
When you look at the other end of the scoring spectrum, only about 1% of the kids are able to get two fours in expository in 4th, and only about 2% to 3% of secondary students are able to accomplish this difficult feat.
In this webinar, you will learn how to get a higher percentage of 3's and 4's in your campus than perhaps your entire district! You might tell me, "Well, our kids don't do any expository before 4th grade." Or maybe it's, "Our population makes it very difficult to get good scores." Here's another explanation: "Our kids have very few experiences and a low vocabulary." NONE of that matters! I've worked with hundreds and hundreds of schools over the last 17 years and I used to give $50 gift cards to every single student who could get a 4! The campus with the highest percentage of 4's would get $100 gift cards for each of their students. I'm probably a little too generous, but some years, I was giving up to $25,000 in gift cards for students who were getting fours! The ideas you will learn will work wonders with your students!
The emphasis will be on developing vertically not horizontally, effective strategies for voice and vocabulary, and the importance of quality over quantity. After this session, you AND your students will fall in love with writing again, or perhaps for the first time.
